Dark stores in India by app, city and state

There are 8,241 dark stores in India, run by Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, BigBasket BB Now, Flipkart Minutes and Amazon Now in 498 cities and towns. Blinkit runs 2,621 of them, about 32%. JioMart also delivers from 2,613 Reliance Stores.

Bengaluru has the most of any city, with 926. At the other end, 183 towns have exactly one dark store.

How many dark stores Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart and others have

Blinkit, owned by Eternal (formerly Zomato), has the biggest network by a wide margin, nearly as many stores as Zepto and Instamart put together. Zepto, Instamart and Flipkart Minutes come next, each with between 1,200 and 1,400 stores.

“Company says” is the app’s own last published figure, usually from quarterly results, so it trails the stores open now by a few months.

Amazon Now’s dark stores, partner More stores included, are in the total. JioMart delivers from Reliance Stores, so its stores are counted separately.

How fast dark stores have grown in India

The count has more than doubled in about 18 months.

A big part came from the newest app, Flipkart Minutes, launched in August 2024.

Dark stores by city and state

Most dark stores in India are in the big cities, and Bengaluru alone has more than the whole of Telangana (645).

Smaller towns have far fewer. Of the towns with a single dark store, 160 have only a Blinkit store.

Will more dark stores open in India?

Yes, but fewer in the metros. In July 2026, India’s big cities already had about 4,300 dark stores, while analysts put the number that could make money at about 3,600. That leaves little room for more in Bengaluru, Delhi or Mumbai.

New stores are now going to smaller cities and towns. 33 towns got their first dark store since the last update. The October 2026 report has every opening and closure.
