Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, BigBasket BB Now and Flipkart Minutes ran 5,625 dark stores in July 2026. Stores were spread over 408 cities.

The July 2026 report is the earliest reading and a partial one, so its counts are a lower bound and there is no month-on-month change.

What stood out in July 2026

The first count found at least 5,625 dark stores. It was a lower bound, so later reports show a bigger jump than real openings.
Big metros were close to having more stores than they can support, and BigBasket planned to cut its quick-commerce cities from 76 to about 40.
Blinkit and Instamart published April–June results, and Zepto put its IPO on hold at the end of the month.

The July 2026 count was 5,625 dark stores in 408 cities across 26 states. It is a lower bound, not a full census.
It was the first reading for Flipkart Minutes and BigBasket, so there are no earlier figures to compare them with.
Maharashtra had the most stores of any state (809 in 37 cities), then Karnataka (724) and Uttar Pradesh (668).

Fee changes, rules and company news in July 2026

Market Jul 2026. Five platforms ran about 6,500 dark stores between them, with about 900 added in April–June. Metros were close to having more stores than they can support.
Company Jul 2026. BigBasket planned to cut its quick-commerce footprint from 76 cities to about 40.
Fees 17 Jul 2026. Zepto launched Zepto Club, an invite-only ₹99/month membership with free delivery above ₹99.
Company 22 Jul 2026. Blinkit had 2,443 stores at 30 June and net order value of ₹17,132 crore for April–June, up 86%.
Company Jul 2026. Instamart had 1,171 stores at 30 June and gross order value of ₹7,907 crore for April–June.
Company 31 Jul 2026. Zepto put its IPO on hold and chose to raise more than ₹1,000 crore from existing investors instead. Co-founder Aadit Palicha told staff it now aims to list in two to three quarters.

Fee changes like these are folded into delivery charges by app, and rule changes into the quick-commerce rules timeline.

What the totals include and leave out

The July 2026 total covers five apps. Amazon Now joined the total in October 2026. JioMart delivers from Reliance Stores, so they are counted separately and never added to the total. Every reading goes through the same counting methodology each time.
